Games were secured on the hallowed turf through the Community Funding initiative, which was based on getting some of our grassroots teams an opportunity to play on the ground rather than the high performance teams.
The early kickoff had Balclutha taking on Old Boys in the last game of the Youth Division 1 competition. The boys from Invercargill started strongly getting 4 in the back of the net early but Balclutha fought hard and managed to pull one back before halftime. From that point on it was an end to end battle with neither side able to trouble the scorers any further. Final score Old Boys 4 Balclutha 1.
Following their live team naming over the weekend, University 5ths arrived suited up to take on Balclutha in a top v bottom clash from Division 4. University jumped out the gates quickly as they rifled 5 past the Balclutha goalkeeper. Despite their underdog status Balclutha weren’t keen on lying down and managed to breach the University defense before the half. The scarfie boys added another 3 across either side of halftime as both teams utilized their large substitutes bench. Balclutha had the final say as they added another 5 minutes before the final whistle. Final score University 8 Balclutha 2.
