Football South are delighted to announce that Paul O’Reilly has been appointed as the FDO for Otago and Head Coach for Southern United.
Paul has excellent calibre, as Head Coach winning four Football Association of Ireland (FAI) Umbro Cup titles in succession (2011-2014) and competing in two World University Championships as part of a dual role with the Institute of Technology Carlow. As well as Head-Coach, Paul led an elite player development programme during more than a decade working for the FAI. Paul also holds a UEFA ‘A’ license, and is a coach education tutor to UEFA ‘B’ level.
Paul is currently working for Football South as a Football Development Officer in South Canterbury, after moving from Auckland at the start of the year. Paul will begin his new role on July 4th.
In addition Paul will be taking on some of the Football Development Manager’s responsibilities on an interim basis – including coach education, and strategy for talent development.
Paul’s goals as FDO will be to continue to drive the Whole of Football Plan and provide support to clubs, coaches, player and volunteers throughout the Otago region. This will be done in line with our ongoing strategy consultation that will ramp up over the coming months.
Paul has already been conducting talent identification for the Men’s Premiership and Chatham Cup games, and this will grow over the rest of the season with support from the coaches, clubs and the football community.
